The accurate and comprehensive model of thin fluid flows with inertia on curved substrates

چکیده
Consider the 3D flow of a viscous Newtonian fluid upon a curved 2D substrate when the fluid film is thin as occurs in many draining, coating and biological flows. We derive a comprehensive model of the dynamics of the film, the model being expressed in terms of the film thickness η and the average lateral velocity ū. Based upon centre manifold theory, we are assured that the model accurately includes the effects of the curvature of substrate, gravitational body force, fluid inertia and dissipation. The model may be used to resolve wave-like phenomena in the dynamics of viscous fluid flows over arbitrarily curved substrates such as cylinders, tubes and spheres. We briefly illustrate its use in simulating drop formation on cylindrical fibres, wave transitions, Faraday waves, viscous hydraulic jumps, and flow vortices in a compound channel. These models are the most complete models for thin film flow of a Newtonian fluid; many other thin film models can be obtained by different truncations of the dynamical equations given herein.

The Accurate Modelling of Thin 3D Fluid Flows with Inertia on Curved Substrates
Mathematical models and numerical simulations for thin-film flows of a fluid have important applications in industrial and natural processes [12], [10], [13], [14], [3], [4], [6]. Herein, we consider the slow motion of a thin liquid layer of an incompressible, Newtonian fluid over an arbitrary solid, stationary curved substrate. In a three dimensional and very slow lubrication flow, a model for...

In this paper, implementation of an extended form of a no-slip wall boundary condition is presented for the three-dimensional (3-D) lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) for solving the incompressible fluid flows with complex geometries. The boundary condition is based on the off-lattice scheme with a polynomial interpolation which is used to reconstruct the curved or irregular wall boundary on the ne...

Several rigorous turbulent models have been developed in the past years and it can be seen that more research is needed to reach a better understanding of their generality and precision by verifying their applications for distinct hydraulic phenomena; under certain assumptions. This survey evaluates the performance of Standard k-ε, Realizable k-ε, RNG k-ε, k-ω and RSM models in predicting flow ...

Lattice Boltzmann method is one of computational fluid dynamic subdivisions. Despite complicated mathematics involved in its background, end simple relations dominate on it; so in comparison to the conventional computational fluid dynamic methods, simpler computer programs are needed. Due to its characteristics for parallel programming, this method is considered efficient for the simulation of ...
